- Wojtek was a Syrian Brown Bear that was bought by members of the Polish military during World War II who were evacuated from the Soviet Union. Wojtek was initially enlisted as a Private but was later promoted to Corporal.
- During his time enlisted during WWII, Wojtek The Bear helped carry ammunition at the battle of Monte Cassino in Italy. After his career in the service, Wojtek retired to the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland.
